Catholic Women’s Conference - Diocese of Austin

Overview

The Catholic Women’s Conference is an annual event designed for English- and Spanish- speaking women in the Catholic Diocese of Austin. The conference includes keynote speakers, breakout sessions, Mass with the bishop, and opportunities for prayer throughout the day. The event hosts were in need of a consistent, streamlined look across the Conference’s marketing efforts in following years that potential participants would recognize.

To obtain a recognizable image that would build hype around the event and attract ideal participants—both new and returning—the Catholic Women’s Conference needed a logo and brand guide. A brand guide is a set of standards to fall back on whenever you have a new project; it defines fonts, color codes, textures or images, styles, sizing, and more. This can be used to apply to programs, fliers, shirts, bags, social media posts, and more, allowing for consistency across various platforms.

Beliefs

The first step was to hone in on what the conference was all about, by guiding the hosts in defining their Why Statement, Core Values, and Core Beliefs. These are a way to quickly and precisely define what a company or program does, who they do it for, and what they want to achieve. Having beliefs in place before the design process begins ensures that the logo and branding accurately represent the initiative.

Design

Logo

Mary is an inspiration, a role model, and a helper in the spiritual lives of women; a sanctuary for all people, forever inviting God’s children to come close to her Son. Therefore, it is fitting that the face of the Catholic Women’s Conference should be our Blessed Mother. Her mantle swoops down in front of her in a warm, enveloping manner: inviting participants to be wrapped in her comfort. Its contrasting silhouetted style highlights the mysterious quality of the feminine genius and invites wonder, awe, and excitement, while expressing strength, confidence, and empowerment.

Each mystery of the rosary is also present in the design. The light side of Mary’s face represents the luminous mysteries, while the dark side expresses the sorrowful. The crown of twelve stars signifies the glorious mysteries, and her smile implies the joyful.

Brand Guide

The brand image is distinguishable by its dainty flower patterns, feminine script fonts, and bold autumn hues of purple, mauve, gold, cream, and a dusty navy. The pairings offer a simultaneous sense of peace, rest, life, and energy. The vibrancy of the color pops imply a confident, liberating feel, while the large amount of “white space” keeps the visuals breathable, inviting, and gentle.

“Thank you, every woman, for the simple fact of being a woman! Through the insight which is so much a part of your womanhood you enrich the world’s understanding and help to make human relations more honest and authentic.”

-St. John Paul II
