St. Patrick Catholic Parish

Brand & Website

St. Patrick Catholic Parish of Brighton, MI reached out to Sherwood Fellows to develop a brand image and website for the church. I was brought onto the team to help develop the logo, branding assets, and brand guide for the parish, which I was then commissioned to apply to their website design as well.

The parish wanted St. Patrick to play an important role in the brand, without feeling too exclusively Irish, as their demographic included more diversity. The wordmark subtly alludes to a Celtic influence to tie it’s identity to the history and life of St. Patrick, while the flame harkens back to the story or St. Patrick’s Easter bonfire.

The color palette of green, navy blue, orange, and white, was crafted to convey the tenacity, depth, and a grandeur that is unique to St. Patrick’s ministry. The rough natural grunge textures allude to the parish’s commitment to authenticity, and the signature swooping arch conveys movement that is intended to tie into the missionary zeal of the parish.

A pairing of two fonts—one serif and one sans-serif—struck a balance between ever ancient and ever new. The first was a classic serif typeface that draws its inspiration from medieval scripts—a faithful, organic book typeface strongly rooted in tradition. The second is fresh, hopeful, and personal, with a relaxed elegance that takes on the personality of the design elements around it. The combination of these two typefaces marked St. Patrick Parish as a place that seamlessly integrates the riches of the Catholic tradition with fresh and new expressions of faith.

We incorporated these elements—utilizing the arch on image banners and the textures in backgrounds—to create a beautiful, clean website, where parishioners can find the many services that the community has to offer.
